FIRST TIME PAINTING

Like most younger siblings, 13-month old Meta loves to imitate her older brothers and when Augie and Noah were painting, she of course did not want to be left out. Here she is painting with tempera paint using brushes, her fingers and foam blocks as stamps . Naturally, as most one year olds are apt to do, she tried to put a brush in her mouth to taste the paint, which didn’t go too well. Surprisingly, she ended up keeping most of the paint on the paper and her hands; the purple on her shirt was from blueberries. She had lots of fun while being introduced to new textures and familiarizing herself with different colors. Messy play is invaluable and contributes to a child’s cognitive and creative development. Don’t be afraid to let your little ones get messy to freely play, learn and create.

DEZO EMPIRE
Dezo Empire is one of the few streetwear brands for children that are currently out there and its founder, Julio “Dezo” Patino and I share similar stories. Before becoming parents, we both were painting trains, but on opposite coasts – I was hitting up freight cars on the West Coast and he decorating the NY transit system on the East. Read More…
GO INDIE!
Our girl INDIE, mother of 3, wife to COPE2 and fellow graffiti writer, shares with viewers her influences, describes her style and talks about motherhood in this video featured on Vimby. My son Noah loved all the “fruity” colors and watched it 5 times in a row! Being a mama and a writer, this was an interview I could really relate to. Also, did I mention there’s a sick ass interview with INDIE’s partner in crime, COPE2 in Clout #11? Go pick up a copy if you haven’t done so already.
FASHION SUCKERS

Kids love lollipops but these will make mamas the ones longing for the sugary confection. Conceptual still life photographer Massimo Gammacurta designed and captured images of these high fashion, branded lollipops. Chanel, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Yves Saint Laurent. If you’re Asian, these are the coveted brands you were already familiar with at a young age, shopping with your mom. Half kidding.

The most beautiful peg puzzle I’ve seen. Old Navy teamed up with wildlife artist Charley Harper to bring consumers a collection of tees, books, games and puzzles featuring his recognizable, stylized illustrations. This wooden peg puzzle would make a wonderful addition to a child’s play room. It’s on sale for $10 at Old Navy here.

SHEPARD FAIREY ON THE COLBERT REPORT
Street artist and father of two, Shepard Fairey, appeared on The Colbert Report this past Thursday, January 15. He discusses his famous “Hope” poster for Barack Obama’s campaign in the video clip. Many years back I met him in San Francisco and it’s crazy to now see how far he’s taken his propaganda. Visit Obey Giant.
